MAY 31 IS WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY
IF you are a hardcore smoker, please take note what our deputy director of health DR Sallehuddin Abu Bakar said:
Hardcore smokers who still insist in puffing away in no-smoking areas will be slapped with a fine of RM250 , and they have two weeks to settle the fine or face legal action.
so hardcore nicotine addicts beware, casual smokers like me can continue doing our thing, if i read this statement correctly.
on another note , and interesting discovery by US researches
'Smoking lung cancer culprit found'
A PROTEIN responsible for repairing damaged DNA may be a vital link to explaining how smoking causes lung cancer, US researchers have reported.Lung cells exposed to cigarette smoke produce less of the protein, called FANCD2.
Without FANCD2, damaged DNA can cause cells to proliferate out of control instead of destroying themselves as normal cells do.
The study, published in the British Journal of Cancer, could lead to better treatments for lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer death globally, the researchers said.
